Baby bottles and reflux, Bottle brushes

When you have a baby with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), I think the type of bottle you use, can reduce the amount of spit up. The kind I used was from Walmart. It had an angled neck and a triflow nipple. You could change the flow rate of the bottle based on the age of the baby. The nipple was also smaller than most, which was what my son liked the best. I think the triflow nipple and angled bottle helped reduce the amount of spit up, but if I had to go through it again, I would probably try different brands to see what worked best. Many brands are advertised to reduce air. Dr. Brown's is one brand I would try. Google searching gives that brand good reviews for helping with reflux.

If you buy a bottle brush at Walmart, I recommend the Parent's Choice brand. The other brand they carry I received as a gift. You have to make sure the brush is wet, otherwise it's too stiff when you first insert it into the bottle. It's also a tight fit for some bottles. After 2 years of use, my brush actually broke. I bought the Parent's Choice brand and it is much better. The brush is softer and has no problem cleaning bottles which were a tight fit for the other brush. Plus the Parent's Choice brush is a little cheaper.
